Hot Summer Fun!

Nate and I took the Boys to the Splash Park on Saturday and we had a blast playing in the water together as a family! The Splash Park is a small water playground that squirts water from all over it. It's nice 'cause there isn't a pool and it's just all smooth cement for the kids to run around on and get wet. Nate had the whole day off and it was nice to have him around so we decided to skip the work around the house and head out for a family activity. Since it was such a hot day we decided the Splash Park would be a good way to cool off and relax. Corbin of course found many friends some his age and some not, he didn't care, and spent the day getting wet. When he would get cold he'd come sit in our lap for a bit swaddled in his towel then head back out for more fun. Aidan wasn't to fond of the water and mostly shyed away from it, he did have fun visiting all the other babies and wandering around the out side of the water area. After about 30 mins. his curiousity got the best of him and he went running into the water play area. At the same time the water toys started shooting water again and soaked him before he got away. He was too stunned to even think about crying! All he could say was a big "OOOOOOH" as he was running from the water! After that Aidan would venture into the water area only if Mom was with him holding him or his hand. Aidan spent a lot of time lounging on the lawn chairs with Mom and Dad too, while snacking on chips and prezels and downing all our waters. Nate and I tried to lay out and tan on the lawn chairs so we could just watch the boys do their thing. We ended up more crispy and burnt than tan! But it was relaxing and fun to just laze around in the sun watching the boys have fun too and thinking our kids are sooo cute! It turned out to be a Great Day! Afterward we ran our errands and came home and did a bit a work, and got ready for Sunday!

Our Memorial Day Weekend!

While we were home alone, with Nate gone to New Mexico with work, the Boys and I had fun swimming in our yard and playing at our house. We then had a very fun weekend, spending time with family! Saturday we spent the day celebrating our Great Grandmother's 90th Birthday and celebrating what an awesome Lady she is! We Love Grandma "Grape" and she is such a great example of good! I hope we can all learn from her and try to be like her. We also were able to spend some time with Nate's family, and cousins, aunts, uncles, it was nice to see everyone again. Sunday, we went and listened to my Mom give a great talk on blessings and working hard for what you want. My Dad was just released from the Bishopric and the Wives were asked to speak on the blessings they had during that time. Mom, you're right about the blessings we've had in our family and I'm so grateful for all of them! We then spent the day playing at Grandpa and Grandma's house with Chloe, Jerry and Katie. Later in the evening, we visited Graves of my Grandparents, Great, Great Grandparents and Aunt Uvene; with my family. Monday, Nate and I went on a lunch date while his Mom tended our Boys. It was a big date to Sam's Club and to run errands, but it was still way fun to be out with my Honey! We had lunch at a steakhouse in Layton called "Corbin's" and it was way good! No relation to our Corbin "dang-it!", so no discount either. Anyway we really recommend it if you like good steaks, bugers, sandwiches and salads. After our date we went and packed up, then went to visit graves of Nate's sibilings Matt and Melissa and his Grandpa with his family. Afterward, we drove back home to our house here in Vernal. This week has been just catching up on house and yard work and staying home playing. I finally got our garden planted, Yeah! Oh, while we were at my parents on Sunday, I found a way to keep my boys from fighting over "the red swing" why not put them in it together. A little together bonding time never hurt siblings, right? I think we will have a lot better time taking turns from now on. They didn't seem to think it was as good of an idea as I did!

Life...as we know it!

Over the weekend Nate took Corbin on his first Fathers and Sons camp-out. They both had a blast and came home exhausted! Corbin took a nap for me on Saturday and Sunday that's pretty unusual around here! He's usually giving me an excuse why he needs to stay up and some how avoids actually taking his nap. The boys went up Friday night had dinner with the other Fathers and Sons, ran around till dark, then tried to get comfortable all night in their tent. After not much sleep because Corbin was waking up quiet frequently throughout the night, they ran around in the dirt, had breakfast put on by Bishopric and packed up and came home. This picture is of Corbin on one of their many hikes around camp. While Nate and Corbin were gone, Aidan and I had our own party at home. We went to Mcdonalds and Aidan loved being his own one man show! Then we came home put Aidan in the tub and his jammies. Aidan was thrilled to get a bath all to himself and not get splashed, squirted or drowned, by big Brother. After jammies we went on a stroller ride around the neighborhood another one of Aidan's favorite activities. In fact both our boys have always loved stoller rides and it makes it a fun family activity like on Sunday afternoons, etc. After our stroll we snuggled in the Lazy-Boy recliner with a story and cup of milk and then I rocked Aidan till he went to sleep. He was my buddy all the rest of the weekend comming up to get hugs and kisses and just sit on my lap. I think it was his way to say thanks for paying attention to me and giving me my day too. On Saturday we had "Big" plans to get a lot of work done inside and outside the house and get Nate's car fixed so we could take it up to his parents and try to sell it since we planned to come up this week. Not very much got done, but we did take a picnic to the park and had fun as a family, bought the part for Nate's car but can't fix it, yet.....a whole nother story! Anyway so by Monday we figured out that I would have to scrap my plans to go up to see family early and do a Girls Time-out with my Best Friend Janae(never mind we've been trying to make this outing happen for the past oh, 3 years or so)because Nate would be here stranded or we'd have to spend gas taking 2 cars up just to bring 2 cars back(=lots of $$$ wasted on high gas prices). So we will be up over the weekend for Grandma "Grapes" 90th Birthday Party and Memorial Day. Oh and Nate left this morning for a week in New Mexico on a work Conference. That leaves the boys and I home together trying to find something fun and exciting to do....we're thinking it might warm up enough to try out our little swimming pool or maybe just the sprinkler. The other pictures here are of Aidan with his Baby...he discovered them in Nursery and takes such good care of it, he even insisted on having it take a nap with him the day he got his doll. Corbin has really taken to taking care of the Baby and they both do a great job of playing "Daddy" with their Babies right along with playing swords and Spider-man. Last, all the Boys got their Summer hair-cuts on Saturday. Yep, they got buzzed! Those would be our highlights lately!

"Invisible" Women

Two weeks ago I had a lesson in Relief Society centered around this story. The point of the lesson was to show our self-worth to each of us and to not tear ourselves down by comparing ourselves to each other. The Relief Society President was the one giving the lesson, and she emphasized how we all are different and we have our own different problems, challenges, etc. She made the point that if we knew what everyone elses difficulties were we would not want to switch places with anyone and take theirs on. She also emphasized that we(women) are all here for a reason and Heavenly Father made us special for the roles we would take on here on Earth and that we are important. If we were not here things would not and could not be the same. This just hit home pretty hard and it was actually a blessing that I attended Relief Society that day. You see my calling is to be a Primary Teacher in Corbin's Sunbeam class. My teaching Partner thought we should try and see if we could teach solo so the other could attend Relief Society, we'd switch each week. I know without a doubt I was suppose to be in that meeting to hear that lesson. After church my Partner informed me that she had been overly confident that she could take on four 3-4 year olds by herself and didn't want to try it again. I have learned a lot about myself since this experience and have taken on a new outlook for everything especially my life and role as a woman here on Earth. I hope to do my best to fulfil my Journey and Destiny and to do it happily with as little or no regrets as possible. I hope this will help all who read it to know of your true worth as a Child of God.

A beautiful article, especially for all women.

Subject: I'm invisible.......written by Nicole Johnson, who used to do this in the Women of Faith conferences.

It all began to make sense, the blank stares, the lack of response, the way one of the kids will walk into the room while I'm on the phone and ask to be taken to the store. Inside I'm thinking, "Can't you see I'm on the phone?"
Obviously not. No one can see if I'm on the phone, or cooking, or sweeping the floor, or even standing on my head in the corner, because no one can see me at all. I'm invisible.
Some days I am only a pair of hands, nothing more: Can you fix this?
Can you tie this? Can you open this? Some days I'm not a pair of hands; I'm not even a human being. I'm a clock to ask, "What time is it?" I'm a satellite guide to answer, "What number is the Disney Channel?" I'm a car to order, "Pick me up right around 5:30, please."
I was certain that these were the hands that once held books and the eyes that studied history and the mind that graduated summa cum laude -- but now they had disappeared into the peanut butter, never to be seen again.
She's going ... she's going ... she's gone!
One night, a group of us were having dinner, celebrating the return of a friend from England. Janice had just gotten back from a fabulous trip, and she was going on and on about the hotel she stayed in. I was sitting there, looking around at the others all put together so well.
It was hard not to compare and feel sorry for myself as I looked down at my out-of-style dress; it was the only thing I could find that was clean. My unwashed hair was pulled up in a banana clip and I was afraid I could actually smell peanut butter in it. I was feeling pretty pathetic, when Janice turned to me with a beautifully wrapped package, and said, "I brought you this."
It was a book on the great cathedrals of Europe . I wasn't exactly sure why she'd given it to me until I read her inscription: "To Charlotte , with admiration for the greatness of what you are building when no one sees."
In the days ahead I would read -- no, devour -- the book. And I would discover what would become for me, four life-changing truths, after which I could pattern my work: No one can say who built the great cathedrals-- we have no record of their names. These builders gave their whole lives for a work they would never see finished. They made great sacrifices and expected no credit. The passion of their building was fueled by their faith that the eyes of God saw everything.
A legendary story in the book told of a rich man who came to visit the cathedral while it was being built, and he saw a workman carving a tiny bird on the inside of a beam. He was puzzled and asked the man, "Why are you spending so much time carving that bird into a beam that will be covered by the roof? No one will ever see it.
And the workman replied, "Because God sees."
I closed the book, feeling the missing piece fall into place. It was almost as if I heard God whispering to me, "I see you, Charlotte. I see the sacrifices you make every day, even when no one around you does. No act of kindness you've done, no sequin you've sewn on, no cupcake you've baked, is too small for me to notice and smile over.
You are building a great cathedral, but you can't see right now what it will become."
At times, my invisibility feels like an affliction. But it is not a disease that is erasing my life. It is the cure for the disease of my own self-centeredness. It is the antidote to my strong, stubborn pride.
I keep the right perspective when I see myself as a great builder. As one of the people who show up at a job that they will never see finished, to work on something that their name will never be on. The writer of the book went so far as to say that no cathedrals could ever be built in our lifetime because there are so few people willing to sacrifice to that degree.
When I really think about it, I don't want my son to tell the friend he's bringing home from college for Thanksgiving, "My mom gets up at 4 in the morning and bakes homemade pies, and then she hand-bastes a turkey for three hours and presses all the linens for the table."
That would mean I'd built a shrine or a monument to myself. I just want him to want to come home. And then, if there is anything more to say to his friend, to add, "You're gonna love it there."
As mothers, we are building great cathedrals. We cannot be seen if we're doing it right. And one day, it is very possible that the world will marvel, not only at what we have built, but at the beauty that has been added to the world by the sacrifices of invisible women.

Happy Mother's Day!

I've always had kind of a complex about Mother's Day. I've always thought of it as a dumb Holiday, because I figure we should be celebrating our Mothers everyday and treating them just as good as we do on Mother's day. Also since it took me a long time to get the opportunity to become a Mother this Holiday became a constant reminder that I wasn't. So this year I took a different approach to Mother's Day and decided to just enjoy being around my family and not to care if it was Mother's Day or not, and just be happy to be a Mom. I have to say I had the BEST Mother's Day weekend ever!!!! My Parents came to visit and spoiled us all rotten. I was so happy to have them here and Corbin and Aidan had a blast playing all weekend with them! Thanks Mom and Dad! I really needed your visit! I think we all did! Also my boys were so good all weekend of course on Sunday they were so worn out from playing with Grandpa and Grandma that they just lounged in our laps all through church. The worst thing that happened all weekend was Aidan had eaten stawberries for breakfast on Sunday and put some down his shirt that we discovered after we walked into Church. Of course I had been carrying him and they got smashed between us and we both ended up with pinkish red stains on the front of us. So I figured if that was the worst thing that happened, it was nothing to worry about, just a funny story. Nate and the boys spoiled me also. Thank You Nate and Boys! Nate and I were able to go do sealings at the Temple Saturday night with our ward. That just made the weekend that much better. Anyway now that this is a novel....I'm so glad for Mothers! Thank you Moms for being the wonderful Women you are! We hope you all had a Great Mother's Day too!

Mini Vacation!

So we got bored with the usual routine of the weekend and took another "free" mini vacation to Holiday Inn Express. Mostly we go there to take the boys swimming but since it's cold outside and fun to let someone else make your bed, what the heck, right? So we just stay the whole night and go get dinner and go swimming. Plus we get free breakfast and for a Hotel it's pretty good, omlets, breakfast burritos, bagels, sausage, cinnamon rolls and the list can go on for awhile. The boys love it and get so excited their bouncing off the walls waiting for Nate to get home from work so they can go to the Hoetel as Corbin calls it. Anyway here we are ready to go swimming! Hope you all had a nice weekend and have a great week!

Warm Weather and Family Fun!

So we had very strange weather over the weekend and into the new week. We acually had some "warm" weather it was almost "hot" weather! We're not use to that here in Vernal. Of course as soon as it really warmed up it turned back to cold. So here are a few pictures of the boys running around outside while we did yard work and stuff during the warm weather. They found the mud, tasted the chalk and probably the mud too! Corbin drew 2 chalk portraits one of his Dad with a "fat tummy"....Nate didn't appreciate the portrait near as much as the rest of us! And he drew a picture of "Grandma with a mustache" but when we asked him which Grandma it was, his answer was "the Circle Grandma". He doesn't have a Circle Grandma and he wouldn't give us anymore info. So Grandma's don't worry neither one of you have a portrait with a mustache and he thinks your both beautiful! Aidan had lost his pants and shoes to the mud by the time they were done playing, but he didn't give up! He just helped us water the dirt to make more mud. The other picture is of the boys playing in their Fort on the day it started out hot and muggy and by noon had turned into windy and back to cold, so we had an inside day. They even had a picnic with fruitsnacks and milk. That was yesterday's fun, today we woke up to snow/really thick frost stuck to everything and more cold. So another inside day instore for today.
